If you have read my earlier posts Hamsa..A new beginning! & A Tiny Store called Hamsa, then you already know about my new venture and the fact that after long years of a corporate job, I finally decided to hang up my hat & became a blogger & entrepreneur. Of course, everything has a flip side to it and so does my new role as an entrepreneur. The only complaint I have, is that it consumes all my time & energy..well almost. As a stay-at-home mother, most of my energy and almost all my time are dedicated to my daughter who is currently in her 'terrible twos'. So, I run my new venture with my left over energy and squeeze in time in my day to do my work at Hamsa. And it is a lot of work, phew!
Well, as you have already guessed, I was trying to make a good case to justify my long absence from blogging. But why should you just believe my words? So, today I decided to share a few pictures to show you what keeps me so busy these days.
When I started Hamsa, I had planned to just curate handmade homewares, I hand picked interesting goodies from different parts of India and people loved & lapped it all up & craved for more. Still, I was not content and wanted to create something with fabrics especially with cotton fabrics & my favorite Indian block prints....Incidentally I was also growing fed up with my hunt for nice curtains for my house...nothing that was available in my favorite stores in the city could satisfy me any longer...I had seen and hung them all. So my frustration prompted me to design curtains...cotton, affordable but different from the usual run-of-the-mill variety .
I started learning names of different fabrics, learned to differentiate hand block prints from screen prints and experimented by mixing self designed jacquard with block printed hemline and soon I was totally immersed in my new work. And then I took a step further, and began designing pillows & cushions for playrooms and nurseries...And it is so much fun to just sit amidst the soft Trunk Show pillows and Bombay Summer Collections' sheer summery curtains in my Hamsa office cum workshop cum tiny store, when the sun shines brightly outside my store window.
