About Me

My photo
Well, when I was a little girl I would spend hours flipping through the pages of a huge catalogue called "Quelle" that my father had brought from Germany. It had glossy pages full of beautiful pictures of lovely rooms, furniture and furnishing and was written in a language I could not decipher. But I think the pictures left an ever lasting impression on my mind and I grew up to be 'me' who drools not over food (or that too!) but good interior design, colors and photography. I also passionately love coffee, films, books, music, white gladioli, solitude, risotto, donuts, and my life (not exactly always in that order). I live in Bombay, India with my husband and little daughter and they both have changed my life in many beautiful ways.

PLAYROOM MEMORIES

A daily struggle in my otherwise peaceful existence, is to keep my daughter's obnoxiously large number of toys & books, in order. As I try to make peace with our co-existence with her innumerable squeaky, furry, loud, battery operated, wooden & plastic (to my utter disgust) toys, and their perpetual intrusion  into my kitchen, bedroom & most annoyingly in our living room, I can't help but wonder, is there anything called a picture perfect nursery? And if it really exists, then who are these superhuman parents who find the time and energy to keep their children's room pretty and tidy. As if keeping the kids tidy & 'in-control' wasn't enough! Well, I guess, minimalism plays an important role. Lesser the number of toys, neater the room looks & easier it is for the kid and the parents to put everything back to where they belong.

I had written about solutions to this misery called 'keeping the playroom/nursery organized'. But as my little one is growing up, I am finding myself enviously looking at those 'perfect' playrooms and wondering are they for real? Today, being totally devoid of any will power to begin the cleaning operation, I sat down to go through the memory lane and dug out a few pictures of her playroom in our previous apartment. Even though a few months back I didn't find them worthy & chose not to post them, today I find them share worthy when I compare them to the current state of her playroom in our new apartment.

Since, it was rented apartment with a terrible landlord, we had not painted the playroom walls in any pastel shades, as I would have really wanted to. So the walls were plain and thus I had hung colorful curtains & added colors only through accessories.
Even though I am a self-proclaimed hater of all thing made of plastic, I bought these green and orange plastic baskets to  organize her toys. They were cheap and sturdy and have been able to withstand her rather rough handling.
The room used to get lovely sunlight in the afternoons and I have beautiful memories of watching her play in the bright orange hue created by the curtains hand painted by my sister.

And of course, her wardrobe was super organized. This is the only area I still have full control over and thus, it still remains clean & organized.
