About Me

My photo
Well, when I was a little girl I would spend hours flipping through the pages of a huge catalogue called "Quelle" that my father had brought from Germany. It had glossy pages full of beautiful pictures of lovely rooms, furniture and furnishing and was written in a language I could not decipher. But I think the pictures left an ever lasting impression on my mind and I grew up to be 'me' who drools not over food (or that too!) but good interior design, colors and photography. I also passionately love coffee, films, books, music, white gladioli, solitude, risotto, donuts, and my life (not exactly always in that order). I live in Bombay, India with my husband and little daughter and they both have changed my life in many beautiful ways.

BRING HOME "TIA PAKHI"

The image of this inviting door of the new boutique store Tia Pakhi at 49/13, Hindustan Park, Kolkata made me nostalgic and in my mind I went off strolling the quaint streets of South Kolkata, the colorful noisy and narrow lanes of North Kolkata and remembered the mouth-watering aromas of the roadside food stalls, bells of hand-pulled rickshaws and incessant honking of old Ambassador taxis in the busy streets of my beloved hometown.

Having grown up in Kolkata, I have seen enough Kantha work (a traditional embroidery style of Bangladesh and West Bengal)....My mother's saris, our quilts, sisters' dupattas, cushion covers and many more. But the collection of designer Anais Basu of Tia Pakhi is something more than just Kantha work...It is a unique amalgamation of the East and the West. Anais has beautifully added the contemporary French flavor of her motherland into the traditional embroidery of Bengal. And thus created a variety of collection of cushions, throws, home accessories as bright and colorful as the store's namesake, an incredibly beautiful species of green parrots of Bengal.

Anais is trained in textile and design and holds a post-graduate degree in management specialized for textile and clothing industry. In 2006, she came to Kolkata from Paris to work with craftsmen for developing embroideries and eventually made it her home. Now, she has her studio in Kolkata and her brand Tia Pakhi recently opened its first boutique store in Hindustan Park, Kolkata.

The boutique is sparsely but artfully decorated and its collection  of hand-made cushions, linens, throws, kids' wear and home accessories add splashes of vibrant colors to the white and grey decor of the store.

Now, let me show you some of the unique hand-made collection of Tia Pakhi.

I suggest you check out the entire collection of Tia Pakhi here     and on Facebook . You may also get in touch with Anais via her blog.
