About Me

My photo
Well, when I was a little girl I would spend hours flipping through the pages of a huge catalogue called "Quelle" that my father had brought from Germany. It had glossy pages full of beautiful pictures of lovely rooms, furniture and furnishing and was written in a language I could not decipher. But I think the pictures left an ever lasting impression on my mind and I grew up to be 'me' who drools not over food (or that too!) but good interior design, colors and photography. I also passionately love coffee, films, books, music, white gladioli, solitude, risotto, donuts, and my life (not exactly always in that order). I live in Bombay, India with my husband and little daughter and they both have changed my life in many beautiful ways.

ARE YOU GREEN ENOUGH!!

"If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need".
- Marcus Tullius Cicero

The other thing we all need in a city like Mumbai is 'space' but not everyone is lucky to have enough space in their apartments to grow a garden or have a library for that matter. However, that should not stop us from loving plants and books and it all depends on whether you love them enough because if you do, then you will make room for your plants and books even in a tiny apartment. When I first came to this city ten years ago, I lived in a tiny room as a paying guest but even then I had potted plants on my windowsill and books stacked on the floor. My old landlady loved me all the more because I had volunteered to water her plants. With time I moved from paying guest accommodation to rented apartments (first a studio and then to bigger ones) and I changed at least eight houses in the last ten years in this city but my books and plants followed me where ever I went. So I know that if you love gardening, you can make your garden (small or big) anywhere in your house. In the balcony (if you have one) in terra-cotta pots,  on the windowsills in beer cans and wine bottles, you can grow essential herbs in tea cans and keep them on your kitchen windowsill, and can grow money plant in recycled wine bottles even in the bathroom. You don't need a backyard (an alien term in Mumbai anyway) if you have windows (we all have that right!). And you don't have to have a green thumb either, if you choose your plants wisely and learn about companion planting (go Google).

Here are some inspiring pictures of lovely potted gardens in balcony and windowsills, plants in cans,  indoor herbs garden and greens in old shoes (this one takes the cake).

So where there's a will, there's a......garden!
